Ep 13: Exo-Suit Augmented Gait Training – Case Study

In Episode 13, Franchino Porciuncula, EdD, PT, DScPT summarizes a clinical study which examines the effects of exo-suit augmented gait training with conventional gait training for individuals after stroke.

In this study, pre/post changes in walking speed and 6-minute walk distance were observed to be significantly greater following exo-suit augmented gait training vs conventional gait training. Further examination revealed that these changes were correlated to significant improvements in a propulsion-based walking strategy: specifically the individual was observed to walk with improved propulsion symmetry, ankle power, trailing limb angle, and stride length following the exo-suit augmented bout of gait training.
